This study focuses on blogging phenomenon among Arab minority in Israel as an alternative media. Being a pioneering research in the field, it also adds information about this phenomenon among this population. Research on the blogs in general is in its early days, and our current research is the first to map the Arab blogosphere in Israel and makes it possible to draw many conclusions about the use of new media among the Arab society and the use of blogs in particular. Most studies relating to online communication in Arab society focused on the general use of computers and the internet (eg Sheikh Muhammad & Rezek, 2015; Avrvch, 2014; Jamal, 2014; Dror & Gershon, 2012). To date, there has been no published empirical research examining the public discourse in the new media in general and in the Arabic blogosphere in Israel in particular. This study contributes to the understanding of the potential of Arab blogs to be a platform for public participation, a means to construct an alternative reality to that presented in the popular Arabic press, and as a tool for activism and the call to action in times of war and conflict.
One of the reasons for any minority to turn to an alternative media lies in its attitude towards the majority. Study of the blogs allowed us to get a glimpse of the world of the Arab minority in Israel and learn what issues they are concerned with, and in particular, those that are not related to in the mainstream media.
