Description
The effects of human lymphokines on the surface charge density of human polymorphonuclear (PMN) leukocytes have been determined using the laser Doppler technique of electrophoretic light scattering. Unfractionated antigen (streptokinase-streptodornase or candida)-stimulated lymphocyte supernatants were found to decrease the mode electrophoretic mobility by 14%. In order to identify the responsible factor, we subjected supernatants from concanavalin A-stimulated lymphocytes to gel filtration on Sephadex G-100 columns and assayed the fractions for their ability to alter PMN electrophoretic mobilities. Two distinct species in the molecular weight ranges of 30–60K and 10–20K, respectively, were found to decrease the electrophoretic mobilities of PMN leukocytes.
