To develop a fundamental frequency (F0) assignment algorithm for a Mexican Spanish text-to-speech system, an experiment was designed to explore the F0 peak alignment patterns of H* accents (simple peaks, as described by Pierrehumbert, 1980) in this dialect. The main motivation for this study was the observation that phrase-medial F0 peaks in Mexican Spanish were occasionally displaced to the right of the syllable perceptually associated with the high tone.
