Description
The aim of this chapter is to use a general communication framework to predict and evaluate where visible information might be critical in mediated communication, especially the use of video. It begins by presenting a communication framework and specifying the fundamental features of communication that have to be supported in any conversation. Then the different types of visible information that play a role in face-to-face interaction and the conversational features they support are described. The authors distinguish between 2 main classes of visible information: visible behaviors produced by the participants, and information about the visible environment. The authors conclude by discussing theories about how visible information operates in mediated communication, and exploring the implications for technology designers.(PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
